How a tattoo happens here
From the first idea to the last lotion, the way it works at Funhouse Tattoo and Redemption Ink.

Before you book
A free consultation first, then a deposit that pays for the drawing
Every tattoo here starts with a free consultation, in person or by text and email if you are travelling. You leave it with a size, a placement, a price and the artist who fits the piece.
The deposit is one hour of tattoo time. It holds every date you book, pays for the drawing, and comes off the last hour of the tattoo. Nothing is charged before you and your artist agree.
The steps
Six steps
01 The idea
Decide three things before anything else: the style, where on your body it goes, and roughly how big. Save the pictures that feel right, even if they are not tattoos, and bring them along to the consultation.
02 The artist
Pick the artist whose portfolio matches, or send the general form and we pick for you. We set you up with the best fit for the piece, not the next free chair, even if that means waiting a little for a date.
03 The consultation
Free, in person or by text and email if you are travelling. Bring the references. You leave with a size, a placement, a price, the name of your artist and a date for approving the drawing, usually within the week.
04 Deposit and drawing
The artist takes a deposit worth one hour of tattoo time. It holds your dates and pays for the drawing, and it comes off your last hour. You approve the drawing, with changes if you want, a day or so before.
05 The appointment
Come rested and fed, on time, in clothes that free the area. You sign the release on our iPad; numbing ointment and soap with lidocaine cost a small fee. Then sit still and talk without using your hands.
06 Aftercare and payment
Your artist walks you through the healing routine, and we sell the ointment, lotion and soap to do it. You pay the balance in cash or by card, and the checkout offers a tip for the artist, as in any service work.
Prepare

What helps, and what hurts
Helps: a full meal, a full night of sleep, water, loose clothes, your ID, and a clear head. A relaxed body sits still and heals faster, and the session goes quicker for everyone in the room.
Hurts: a night out before the session. Alcohol thins the blood, which means more bleeding, blurrier lines and a longer, more uncomfortable sit. Reschedule instead; we would rather move the date.

Questions people ask
What if I live out of town?
The consultation, drawing and approval all work over text and email. Book before your trip and we hold the dates with the right artist.
Can I change the drawing?
Yes. Changes happen at the approval, a day or so before the appointment, and artists leave time for them. Come to the consult prepared and you will rarely need any.
Is the deposit refundable?
The deposit holds your dates and pays for the drawing, so it is not refunded if you cancel. Reschedule with notice and it moves with you.
How long will I sit?
Small pieces take under an hour. Sleeves and back pieces are several sessions of a few hours each, spaced so you heal between them.
